Changing social perspective through social media

Crafting the PR Strategy

The foundation for an effective PR strategy is coordinating a collaborative connection between a press release and an organization’s social media. Poo~Pourri changed their organization goal of being seen as a form of novelty gifts to items-on-the-go. In a press release, Poo~Pourri took a more serious stance by donating 100 percent of their online sales to World Toilet Organization. From there, Poo~Pourri tweeted about the importance of providing safe and sanitary options to people who cannot afford it.

Standing Out on One Platform

Poo~Pourri is known for its YouTube videos that challenge the social perception of pooping, or more specifically, women pooping.

Poo~Pourri released a string of themed how-to videos and collectively, their

videos have millions of views.

Most of their popularity is garnered from their presence on YouTube, but Poo~Pourri has accounts on all major social media platforms.

It’s important that the organization takes time to plan out different social media strategies. In order to be successful, consistent posting is key. Connecting Press Releases to Social Media

It’s important to highlight organization news on social media. For Poo~Pourri, they have multiple platforms to choose from when it comes to making this connection. Poo~Pourri publishes one or two press releases a month—these surround current company decisions, promotions, additions to the product line, etc.

Social Media Listening

Along with posting newsworthy information on social media platforms, Poo~Pourri has to listen to what their audiences are saying about Poo~Pourri—do they like how Poo~Pourri donates a lot of their sales to worthy causes? Do they like Poo~Pourri’s attempt at awareness for social injustice? These opinions can help Poo~Pourri adjust the social media component of their PR plan and help their overall self-awareness.
