A List of Things I Now Understand (after my first week at my 9-5)
I graduated college May 2019, and I was pleasantly surprised to land the first job I interviewed for. Now, I'm a week in. Let's take a look at what I've learned.
1. Why so many t-shirts and coffee mugs and canvases, and even phone cases, etc. all say "But First, Coffee"
Seriously. That after-lunch nap I used to treat myself to in college? Non-applicable at the office. Also, can we talk about how accurate those old 5-hour energy commercials are?
2. The importance of making lists (and sticking to them)
As someone who finds themselves easily distracted, lists keep me on task...or at least on track to being on task. I actually wrote "Focus" on my to-do list from day two.

3. Humpday
I probably don't need to elaborate on this one, but just know that 1:34-1:37 p.m. on Wednesday felt like two hours.
4. Why people talk to themselves
Sometimes, you just need someone to agree with you and encourage you at all times in your cubicle.

5. Why people are obsessed with The Office
Well, I don't fully understand, but it is clear that every office has their Dwight/Jim dynamic. It certainly makes eavesdropping from the comfort of my cubicle very entertaining.
6. The pains of living and working in the city
I work 7.2 miles away from my apartment, so why does it take 20-24 minutes to get home?
7. Why everyone is happier on Fridays
50 percent of the time, it's pay day, and even when it's not, I think everyone is just happy to have completed another week.
With all this being said, I really enjoy my new job and I am excited to learn and grow in my career!
Until Monday,
Kimmy
